Five big hearted colleagues from property consultants Sanderson Weatherall, have
launched a three-month charity campaign to boost funds for St Oswald’s Hospice.
Answering the call from the Dickinson Dees Enterprise Charity Challenge, the
team from Sanderson Weatherall’s Newcastle office, together with other organisations
from across the region, have all been given a cheque each for £100 from Dickinson
Dees to convert into as much money as possible between 1 August and 31 October
2009.
To kick-start their charitable campaign, team members John Haley, Andrew Carphin,
Sarah Ross, Liz McLoughlin and Anthony Tubbs are hosting an exciting Cannonball
Run on Saturday 22 August.
Starting at 9am at Blue Flames Sporting Club in Benton, teams of three or four
will set off in fancy dress with only their wits, a digital camera and mobile
phone for emergencies. Teams are then blindfolded and are driven to a mystery
location where they must complete a series of fun challenges and make their way
back to Blue Flames by 6pm for an evening of entertainment.
To-date, thirteen teams have pledged their support for the unique event.
Associate director at Sanderson Weatherall, John Haley, said: “We wanted to get
involved with the Challenge because we wanted to support a local charity which
touches the lives of so many people in our region.
“A big thank you to everyone that has got involved so far. There are a few remaining
team slots left and friends and families are more than welcome to join us to cheer
teams back to base.”
Andrew Carphin from the firm’s industrial agency department believes that local
organisations and individuals can also really benefit from the Challenge. “Regardless
of everything that is going on in the economy and markets at the moment, it’s
really important for companies to continue to support local charities. Often,
these are the activities and occasions that really bring a team together,” he
said.
“That said, this challenge also appeals to our healthy competitive side and we
of course want to raise the most money possible for St Oswald’s Hospice and have
plenty more exciting and fun events planned!”
St Oswald’s Hospice provides expert care for adults and children in the North
East. Adopting a holistic approach, it provides spiritual and emotional support,
as well as addressing physical symptoms at no charge. As a registered charity
with running costs in excess of £7m each year, £5m of this total is funded through
voluntary sources.
