PPG Land, together with City Land Developments, have secured planning permission
for ‘Link 66’, a 98-acre mixed-use scheme, capable of supporting up to 2M sq ft
of employment space.
The new development could provide for a variety of industrial and warehouse units,
including a single building of 1.8 million sq ft as well as catering for office
buildings from 10,000 – 100,000 sq ft, with potential for hotel, restaurant and
pub opportunities.
Sanderson Weatherall’s Jonathan Simpson, joint marketing agent for the scheme,
said: “The versatility of Link 66 is a

huge selling point. There are only a handful of sites in the North East capable
of housing this scale of development.
“With 98 acres of consented land, if Link 66 is developed in accordance with
the proposed layout, this could create approximately 2,200 new jobs for Darlington.”
With few restrictions operating on this site, individual buildings can be constructed
to meet occupiers’ specific requirements, on a freehold or leasehold basis.
Mark Rudolph of PPG Land, said: “This is an exciting new project for us and City
Land Developments and with a number of high-profile transactions taking place
in the North East in the last six months, the ability to now deliver bespoke units
at Link 66 means we are well-placed to compete for future requirements.
“Link 66 is strategically located to provide options to companies looking at
importing or exporting goods through Teesport and the increase in traffic at the
port should generate additional interest in the scheme.”
Link 66 will be accessed from the specially-designed Darlington Eastern Transport
Corridor and adjoins the A66 to the east of Darlington.
The site was acquired from the Chapter and Diocese of Durham Cathedral for whom
Carter Jonas acted as agents. Joint marketing agents for Link 66 are Sanderson
Weatherall, Carter Jonas and Gent Visick.
